What: Sweet garlic grilled chicken marinated in soy sauce and honey. Easy, one skillet recipe.

Taste: Sweet & savory, garlic-y, honey, and meaty.

How It’s Made: Cut chicken. Marinade. Make sauce. Cook chicken. Add in sauce. Done!

Grilled Sweet Garlic Chicken (Maneul Dakk Gui) | 마늘 닭 구이

Sweet garlic grilled chicken marinated in soy sauce and honey. Easy, one skillet recipe.

Ingredients:

Marinade
  • 505g, about 1lb chicken (thigh, breast, any is fine)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Black pepper
Sauce
  • 5 Tbsp (75g) honey (any syrup sweetener is fine)
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp vinegar (rice, apple, or white)
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 4 Tbsp garlic, minced (added later)
  • Parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Thinly cut and score 1lb of chicken. Mix and marinate in the following: 2 Tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp salt, Black pepper. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, make the sauce by whisking the following: 5 Tbsp (75g) honey (any syrup sweetener is fine), 2 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 & 1/2 Tbsp vinegar (rice, apple, or white), 3 Tbsp water. Set aside.
  3. Heat large skillet over medium high heat. Place chicken onto skillet—no need to oil because the chicken is covered in oil. Cook until just about golden, then flip and repeat. Cut the chicken into thinner, and smaller pieces so that it cooks faster.
  4. Set aside chicken strips in a small bowl. Do not turn off heat— add in sauce to the skillet over medium high heat. Quickly whisk it, and add in minced garlic (4 Tbsp), and chicken strips. Mix until well coated.
  5. Add chopped parsley (optional) and turn off heat. Serve with some rice and side dishes or eat with a salad! I like to eat this with a kale salad. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container.
